The Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment of process and practice is an industry-standard qualification for those who wish to become a lead IQA within the FE (Further Education) and HE (Higher Education) sectors. Therefore, to work as a lead IQA, training centre or awarding this qualification is ideal.
For this course enrolment, you don’t need prior qualification or experience. Moreover, after completing the course, you will be able to keep an eye on the internal verification team and work assessors.
Other than that, to meet the practical requirements of the course, you will be required to quality assure the work of internal verifiers and qualified assessors.

For this course enrolment, you must meet the mentioned requirements:
• You should be at least 19 years old or above
• You must have a satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy skills.
• Trainee IQA, for unit 2, must have access to 2 assessors; which is then required to assess these two vocational learners.
• For unit 3, at least two additional internal verifiers who each quality-assure two assessors must be available to the trainee IQA.
• Generally, the tasks are completed through essay style written accounts and reflections on the learner’s IQA practices.
• For assessment, simulations are not allowed; therefore, for practical tasks, the evidence must be provided.
• This evidence must be of the trainee monitoring 2 assessors each working with a minimum of 2 candidates of their own,
• And at least 2 internal verifiers who quality assure 2 assessors through components of a qualification.
• Provided evidence must be sufficient, authentic and valid.

A Lead Internal Quality Assurer is an occupationally competent professional who leads a team of internal quality assurance staff at their organisation. The Lead IQA is required to monitor, support and co-ordinate the work of the IQA working group and/or trainee IQAs in any relevant organisation, including the monitoring of learning, delivery, and assessment activities occurring in the centre, as well as legal issues such as data protection.
The IQA unit 2 qualifies you as an internal verifier capable of sampling and verifying the work of assessors. And unit 3 qualifies you as a Lead IQA, indicating that you are capable of leading and supervising a team of internal verifiers.
It is not necessary to be a qualified assessor to become an IQA. This course is designed for anyone who is responsible for quality assurance in an environment of learning and development.
You are required to assess the work of two assessors who are working with two learners each (four learners altogether).
Yes, you can complete the theoretical part first and then wait to get a placement to complete the practical requirements of the course.

I am a PhD candidate (passed viva) at the University of Essex. My specialisation in PhD is Entrepreneurship. I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
