The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) is the perfect choice for those who desire to assess learners on accredited courses. Previously, if you wished to become an assessor you would have to accomplish the D32 and D33 modules, which were later replaced by the A1 assessor award. That is why people commonly recognise this course by the name of A1 Assessor qualification. Years later, the A1 qualification was replaced by the CAVA course from the current set of qualifications, commonly known as TAQA (Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance) Qualification.
Most training centres will require you to have an assessor qualification before you begin assessing FE and HE sectors’ qualifications. To enrol in the course, no previous work experience or skills are required.
Note: If you do not wish to take the full certificate, you can opt for Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment which is both time and cost effective.

This course is delivered through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), and our support tutors will assist you throughout the course to help you successfully complete the course in time.
For your evaluation, an observation of you assessing a candidate will be conducted which will serve as evidence. In addition to that, you will be asked to submit a portfolio of work, supported by evidence of you applying various assessment methods. Your tutor will be readily available to guide you through the complete process. All the units of this course will be internally assessed by our qualified tutors and externally assessed by the respective awarding body.
After successful completion of this accredited online course, you can move on to the following qualifications:

For acquiring this L3 CAVA qualification, you should:
• Be at least 19 years of age.
• Have a satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy skills.
• Must have at least 2 learners enrolled on accredited courses, that you can assess.
For the practical requirements of units 2, you must assess at least two learners, enrolled on a course that has work-based units. And for Unit 3, you must assess at least two learners, enrolled on a course that has primarily theoretical units. Make sure the course(s) you choose to assess are accredited. You can use our work-placement service or choose the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practises of Assessment if you do not have access to learners to fulfil the course's practical requirements.
The majority of the assignments would be accomplished through reflections on your own assessment procedures and written accounts in essay format. In order to complete some of the activities, you may need to submit relevant materials, like audio or video recordings that demonstrate how you assessed learners in a classroom or work-based environment.

What does an NVQ Assessor do?

I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support.
