Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (RQF), previously known as the V1 course, is also referred to as the level 4 IQA. This qualification is regarded as an industry standard qualification to work as an IQA in the FE and HE sectors.
If you wish to work as an IQA, most training centres will require you to obtain a V1 qualification. Whether you are a manager, assessor or teacher can become an IQA, which will enable you to assess IQA activities.

Once enrolled, you will be guided by your assigned tutor regarding your assessment which will include a recording of your demonstration and other written tasks.

For Level 4 IQA, you must follow the mentioned requirements:
• Learners should be at least 18 years old
• Have a satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy skills.
• A trainee IQA, for unit 2, must have access to two assessors, assessing two vocational learners,
• Their work will be sampled and verified.
• All the tasks will be completed via essay-style written accounts and reflections which will be of your IQA practices.
• There are no simulations allowed, therefore you are required to provide evidence for practical tasks,
• The provided evidence must be the result of the trainee’s IQA performance in a suitable environment.
• For this, the trainee is required to monitor a minimum of 2 assessors – each working with at least 2 candidates.

I am a PhD candidate (passed viva) at the University of Essex. My specialisation in PhD is Entrepreneurship. I am an active researcher with specific interest in Entrepreneurship, SME, Marketing and UK Higher Education (UKHE). I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
